In relation to message history? That would depend on how the xmpp server 
is setup. Single user chat is between the 2 authenticated clients, 
whether from web client or client such as Pidgin. For sure OTR messages 
will not be accessible, but you can use either/or for chats with others. 
Message history can also be controlled within each client, but will only 
record what is sent and received with each client.
