Did you check if /kolab/etc/kolab/kolab.conf has the correct credentials? Are
the config files for slapd properly updated?

There is something about manually transferring settings from the templates in
the general (non-version specific) upgrade instructions. Did you do that? It's
not only the files from /kolab/etc/kolab/templates but also the LDAP
configuration files from /kolab/etc/openldap because you need to run kolabconf
to get config files created from the templates.
