prblem with install on Gentoo based Linux

I followed process for installing Kolab in Gentoo based Linux - Calculate Linux Directory Server 10.2 - that Calculate indicated being 100% compatible with Gentoo.

From: http://wiki.kolab.org/index.php/Gentoo_-_SysAdmin_-_Installation.

At end, when prompted to type "emerge kolabd", I received following error message:

[Errno2] No such file or directory: '/usr/portage/local/layman/make.conf' in/etc/make.conf

Earlier in install process, I input:

emerge layman
emerge subversion
echo "source /usr/protage/local/layman/make.conf" >> /etc/make.conf
layman -f -a kolab

There was no error message return at that point.

Can anyone help with this problem?
