What would be really really great is to have the patches that kolab uses 
included upstream.  This is already on going for some time, without success 
perhaps you can get something achieved in this area.  More information about 
the patches are at:

The most important ones are the postfix one and cyrus ones.  There are 
actually 3 patches to be worked on: 4, 6 and 8.

If you get these patches committed upstream, you'll do the kolab project a 
favor, but also the other groupware projects ;)
