There were some people on this list running fetchmail,
maybe you can search the list archives.

I suggest that you try Kolab2 as server now,
because it is more advanced and supported with security fixes.

If you want Kolab to send email to an internet provider, you can adapt
the postfix settings.
Kolab2 has a smarthost field build-in to make that easier.
