The distribution's MTA _is_ turned off. It has been turned off ever since I started
working with Kolab. As a proof of this, the postfix installation that comes with the
distribution logs to /var/mail/mail.log. I tried to stop postfix, and got

[root@[root at mekong postfix]# /etc/init.d/postfix stop
mekong postfix]# grep postfix /var/log/mail.log
Mar 30 13:20:54 mekong postfix/postfix-script: fatal: the Postfix mail system is not running

Now under /kolab/var/postfix/log/postfix.log, I see

[root at mekong postfix]# tail -f /kolab/var/postfix/log/postfix.log
Mar 30 13:27:58 mekong <info> postfix/qmgr[28915]: 4328618297: from=<bounce-debian-powerpc=storm=tux.org [AT] lists.debian.org>, size=4177, nrcpt=1 (queue active)
Mar 30 13:27:58 mekong <info> postfix/smtpd[18271]: disconnect from gwyn.tux.org[199.184.165.135]
Mar 30 13:28:02 mekong <info> postfix/local[18273]: 4328618297: to=<storm [AT] sonsofthunder.homelinux.org>, relay=local, delay=10, status=sent ("|/usr/bin/procmail")
...

And it is constantly updating. But the mail is going to /var/spool/storm.

Thanks Henning. The distribution's postfix is off, kolab is on. I have ensured this,
and the logging proves it. I installed from scratch, and all of the files are default
from the install.
