running on Debian etch and icewm (not KDE desktop):

Settings -> Configure Kontact -> Email -> Appearance -> System Tray
[X] Enable system tray icon
(with not touching the System Tray Mode, i.e. keep at Only show ...)

When closing kontact via the window close button, it will minimize (that's ok),
but when opening it again from the icewm task bar, the toolbar buttons below the
menu, buttons in the "Address Books" selection are replaced by grey boxes and
switching from e.g. E-Mail to Contacts does no longer work.

Starting a new kontact instance immediately shows a new window in perfect
working condition (this is good).
