It is not real hope for a "standard" in my eyes, because it has to
be practical. And it is a protocol standard, which means the contents
will not be compatible, thus it is not a compatibility standard
(as far as I have understood it).
If we wanted to support CalDav, it would be something similiar
to a webclient to Kolab Server.
