I don't think this would help much at this stage. First of all, it is already 
difficult for the Kolab developers to keep up with the pace of the OpenPKG 
people. How many more resources would be needed to stay current only with the 
major Linux distros?

Secondly, it is not sufficient to have a running Kolab server. You also need 
to have a matching client. But as far as I know, a lot of code from the 
Proko2 branch of kdepim still has to be merged into HEAD (or whatever is 
current for the KDE people :-) ).

So, if you integrate the Kolab server into a distribution now, you either have 
to care about the KDE client, too, or you will end up with a half-broken 
setup. This will not attract more people.

Apart from that, and keeping philosophical views aside, I did not like the 
OpenPKG approach at first, either. But after installing it on several 
different distributions, I am glad that I didn't have to worry about 
distribution-specific problems!
