This is a feature proposed by Martin  
to solve the problem of folder names in an international setting.  
 
In msg4783 he proposes to have another imap annotation  
to give display names for the folders in other languages. 
This issues is to document and discuss this feature proposal. 
 
Some minor drawbacks:  
(1) the one with rights to write  
must be able to create all folder translations. 
(2) for standard folder names, some space might be wasted.
