Yes, in theory this should not hurt at all.

If the FB list is defined for a contact OL indeed is supposed to use this

To my knowledge OL does not an unsolicited LDAP lookup. Joon might know more 
about this. You can easily verify this assumption by using

tcpdump -i eth0 port 389 on the server.
