It works here at the request tracker with several webpages.

No, you only show the unprotected page if the user cannot authenticate
if she can provide the right credentials, than this will be tried on other pages
as well. So once they were provided, the other pages are displayed.
If you hit a page that you cannot display, because the new credentials
are not enought, then you have to show the unprotected page again.
But this seems fine to me.
