IMHO the management of the personal distribution list definelty belong on the
client, while the storage of this list belongs on the server.
The list are not best stored in LDAP but in the personal contact folder (list
of vcards)

Public lists though are imho either handled via traditional mailing list
software and I am seriously considering mailman here.
In addition we offer bulletin lists via public folders.
