Kolab and ActiveDirectory?

People have done that before. Please check the mailing list archive. There are 
even companies offering direkt support for such a szenario.

I am not really familiar with any of these solutions but I have in general 
heard nice things about these offerings.

In general if you are only interested in the authentification towards MS AD 
simply make sure Kolab sasl is pointed to Active Directory to do 
authentication against it.
