[Kolab-devel] Feedback of my tests of the Horde based web frontend for Kolab 2

Hi,

I've a test server running with Kolab 2 (latest snapshot from the mirrors).
I use Kontact (CHS HEAD) to access the accounts. On the server, there I
have installed the Horde based web frontend (WF) according to the
instructions on http://www.kolab.org/webclient.html .

While the installation was no problem and the WF showed up in my browser,
the first impressions are mixed. Here is what I've found:

Mail:
Choosing the Webmail part gives me the content of my INBOX. Mail, INBOX and
Filters, but no other folders are visible in the left pane, however I can
select them in the combobox in the upper right corner. If I e.g. select
"spam", the message list is shown for that folder. Switching to Calendar
and Tasks works as well, BTW.
If I select any message in a normal folder (containing mails but not events
or tasks etc.) I can't get the message. A white frame appears instead. The
frame seems to have no HTML at all, at least Show Frame Source in Konqueror
gives me nothing.
A strange thing is, that a colleague of mine gets such a blank frame when he
tries to view the content of his INBOX. He's using exactly the same server,
but of course he has other messages in his folder.

Calendar:
So far, I haven't found any problems here. However, I only did a few tests
with the basic functionality.

Tasks:
Tasks seem to work in the WF. A problem is, that Horde's driver generates a
storage format which is not compatible with the one used in Kontact. The
XML tags are in different order, some data about the organizer is missing.
It's easy to see if one compares two task messages in Kontact using the
View Source command.

My main concern is the problem with showing the mails. If that can be solved
somehow, I can spend a reasonable effort in testing the frontend as my
company is willing to switch to Kolab 2 (provided it is stable and has a
working WF). Who is currently doing development on the WF? How can I help?
(However you should know that I don't know PHP, I could just tweak here and
there if recommended.)

Best regards,
Andreas Gungl
