Multiple domain setup -- Recipient address rejected: User unknown in local recipient table

If I do the scenario described above the problems are:

1. Can't login at all with user1 at domain2.com
2. From user1 at domain1.com I'm getting the following error when trying to
email the user1 at domain2.com

SMTP Error (550): Failed to add recipient "user1 at domain2.com" (5.1.1 <
user1 at domain2.com>: Recipient address rejected: User unknown in local
recipient table).
