What I told you is actually the default configuration:

    http://git.kolab.org/pykolab/tree/share/templates/roundcubemail/kolab_files.inc.php.tpl#n3

and it works fine with my server where the webclient and IMAP server are also 
on different hosts.

What performance issue is this?
