Thanks Aleksander and Daniel for the explanation. I do now understand :)
For reference here is the link to the feature request:

If I understand it correctly those resource types are also some kind of
resource pool. E.g. if I have a resource type 'Car' and two concrete
cars like 'VW-1' and 'Porsche-1', a users could request a generic
resource 'Car' and would randomly get one of the concrete cars if both
are available.
Did I get that right?
