You may need to edit a file named

$HOME/.kde/share/config/akonadi_kolabproxy_resourcerc

That contains something like the following:

[KolabProxyResourceSettings]
KolabFormatVersionakonadi_imap_resource_2=1
enableKolabV3=true

Change or add the enableKolabV3 line to "true".

This is because (at least on my distribution) Kontact by default defaults to
using the old (Kolab2) XML format instead of version 3.

I have tried the advice above and still cannot get Kontact to like any of my
addressbook entries.

I am using Ubuntu 12.10 with backports.  About Kontact says 4.10.1, which is
the KDE version and also shows as the KMail version.

When I have entered contacts either into my Android device, or in Roundcube
directly, the contacts eventually appear in both places.  However, Kontact
will start complaining with a message:

"An error occurred while reading/writing a Kolab-Groupware-Object(akonadi id
351,222): no part found"

The enableKolabV3=true entry is in the akonadi_koablproxy_resourcerc file.

I have noticed that contacts enter via Kontact eventually sync to the other
devices, but even Kontact won't display the ones I entered in its interface.

Here's the three entries I am playing with.  The first was generate from my
Android phone, the second from Roundcube, and the third from Kontact:
