Ok,  I have restarted kolab, deleted the account in the kolab user interface 
and re-created it.  Now the invites work.

I first connected with kontact e35, but it has only created a calendar folder 
instead of all of the groupware folders.

Thanks for your help so far.  Unless something springs to mind, I will close 
this thread and wait till I get some more results from further testing.
