However, when I tried to reproduce this morning, the issue seems to have seems
to have  away, presumably due to the locales change you suggested I make.  It
didn't seem to fix it at the time, but perhaps there's some required trigger
for this to take effect, eg logout/login, browser cache to expire, some daemon
to restart, etc. which has happened in the meantime.
