As to fam and gamin.
Probably not a problem.
They both do the same thing using different kernel drivers.
What they do is notify when  files are changed.
Fam is considered less safe and has a limit on how many  files ( maybe 
directories) that can be monitored.
Gamin is better in almost all respects.
Both allows file managers etc to know when a file has changed without 
having to check for changes.
Gamin is designed to be mostly compatible with fam.
