Hot to recover e-mail files from a backup?

Kontact from Kubuntu 7.10 has delete again all my e-mail from INBOX.

No comment.

Now my INBOX is empty, but i have a backup of the all /kolab/.

I have extract from backup my inbox: 
var/imapd/spool/domain/p/domainxxx.com/u/user/user/

I can see all single e-mail files but if copy its in the 
location /kolab/var/imapd/spool/domain/p/prisma.com/g/user/gestioneserver/ 
with a cp i can't see the e-mail.

What is the correct method with cyrus-imap? With Maildir/ is sufficient 
a "cp -a" but with cyrus?
