Thanks for the hint, but that doesn't seem to be the problem:

# eval `/kolab/etc/rc --eval all env`
# which cyradm
/kolab/bin/cyradm
# cyradm --user manager --password <PASSWD> localhost
# cyradm> lm
listmailbox: no connection to server
