Cannot send e-mail from outside

Since a couple of upgrades ago, I cannot send e-mail from the outside anymore.
In order to send e-mail from the outside, I need to authenticate. However, 
this seems not to work anymore. I am being asked fro the password in an 
infinite loop.
This seems to be since I upgraded from Mandriva 2006 and of course some of the 
authentication packages were upgraded.

I likely would be fixed if I did a kolab bootsatrap -b but hmmmmm
Has anybody successfully gone through such an upgrade?
