I do not quite understand the question.
First there is a competing software called egroupware,
check out www.egroupware.org/ .
Most Kolab users really like the ability to have a smart client
at their fingertips and be able to work offline with it.
Unlike many other groupware solutions Kolab does not have
a production ready web based calendering solution. 
Some people try to develop Horde in this direction, but
bit are still missing here and there.
As webmailer, you could add any to a Kolab Server installation.
It just needs to speak IMAP and SMTP, e.g. some run Squirrelmail.
