New to Kolab - please help

You could have a look at the Kolab Wiki: http://wiki.kolab.org

Regarding templates: all the configuration should be done in the templates and
the kolabconf utility generates the actual configurations for the individual
components.
You don't have to worry about templates too much in the beginning, you don't
need to configure anything there unless you have unusual needs. When After
installing kolab you have to bootstrap (see docs above) Kolab which creates
an initial usable configuration. Then you should have a look at the
configuration webinterface to do some initial configuration (adding users,
distribution lists, ...). You should at least create one user that receives
all administrative mails.

I don't know about direct integration. But if you want to have a kind of
mailing list you can create distribution lists in kolab, which are quite
similar.
You could also fiddle around with the configuration files to pass mails from
one system to another, but I would suggest to create distribution lists in
Kolab instead.
