Currently this is typical consultant work,
because developers cannot forsee and take into account all possible way of
integration a Kolab Server.

It comes with the server distribution. Another was to get it, is from the cvs.
I suggest to start with a regular Kolab 2 Server installation.

Have you read through the documents at:
http://www.kolab.org/documentation.html
the wiki, the Kolab1 documents for background?
In addition the used server components are quite well documented.
E.g. Openldap, Cyrus, Postfix.

This should not be the case.

I cannot say for sure,
there are too manx GNU/Linux distributions out there. ;-)
Seriously: You should look at the error messages during
the installation step. Find out if this is an OpenPKG generic problem
or a Kolab Server specific one. Ask here. Also search for Redhat/Fedora
problems.
