why /kolab ?

Hi folks,

I am new to kolab (i am still under install stage) but i have already 
one question :
why does kolab install itself under /kolab ?
Why doesn't it use libraries installed by the distribution it runs 
under ?
I can't understand why I have to compil all this stuff wheareas almost 
is already installed on my system ? There must be reason but I can't 
find it by myself....
So if someone could tell me, I could sleep peacefully this night ;)
