Deleted Users Awaiting Cleanup Revisited

I've installed Kolab on RedHat 9 four times. The first three times I had the
problem in which I tried to delete a user only to have Kolab show the
notice: deleted user awaiting cleanup.
After the third install I decided to try some of the solutions offered
previously -- check the Cyrus spool, use cyradm to look at something else,
and then deleting the user from LDAP somehow.
Before I could get the necessary reading done to figure out exactly what all
that meant, I had a hardware failure. So I went for install four.
This time I changed from the GRUB boot loader to LILO. I also installed to a
different server and a smaller drive. I'm able to delete users successfully
this install from the web interface.
Maybe I just lucked out this time. A real scientist would go back to the old
server with the new drive and install with GRUB to see if that was the key
... then he would try variations until he was certain what the solution
was -- or he decided he was just lucky. However, I don't want to press my
luck.
I thought I'd mention this to the group just in case it proved to be
helpful. I spent more time trying to figure out how to delete users manually
than I did reinstalling from the ground up.
