Just for completness:
Rolling out a tarball to a fixed directory is possible automatically,
though you are completely right, it is not as comfortable as using
native packages.

The Kolab project currently lacks the manpower to make
currently packages for a wide variety of systems. 
Naturally we like to do so, but it depends on how many people
help with this. 
(The companies behind kroupware and proko2 can make you
an offer to package the KDE Kolab client to your favorite platform.)

Sure, but Kolab2 is a project under construction.
That you can get a look at the latest features is an extra
of our open development 
If somebody wants Kolab2 done faster: Help or provide a budget.  ;)

You put the finger in the wound here, we definately need to get
an instruction page for thus up on the webpage.
