I do not use Mandrake Linux on server side, it is only on my corporate desktop
(my home desktop has a Debian).

But I know the answer to your question: MandrakeSoft is a *linux* vendor.
They must not handle "Cross-Platform Unix Software Packaging", they must only
handle Mandrake Linux packages.

I understand why Kolab developers has adopted OpenPKG, but I also understand
MandrakeSoft approach.
Simply, Kolab developers and Mandrake packagers have different requirements,
we are looking to two different order of problems.

MandrakeSoft approach is a bit different: for Kolab they use system Postfix,
system OpenLDAP, system Apache 2.0.x, system Cyrus, system OpenSSL, system
Perl... All of this packages are patched and upgraded indipendently from
Kolab, and Kolab package, in *this* scenario, can take advantage of any
system upgrade.

Remember: they are *linux* vendors, they *have* almost all of Kolab components
embedded in *their* own platform, and if you take a look at their own src.rpm
you can see only a few patches, almost all regarding configuration files and
configuration procedures.

IMHO, they've done a good work.

Playing with

	urpmi kolab-server

is much more comfortable then playing with QIM procedure, and playing with

	urpmi --auto-select

is much more comfortable then playing with QIM procedure too.
I think Mandrake server users installing Kolab will be very satisfied. :-)

Mandrake guys has built their linux distribution on top of two good package
manipulation packages, rpm and urpmi, thay do not need OpenPKG.
And as far as they remain a linux vendor, they will not need OpenPKG.
