Extra Header field

Having the UID in the Subject would be ideal for me.

With that said - if it is however necessary to move it to a separate header, 
then I can work around that, however, at somewhat of a performance hit.

Unfortunately I cannot search (using the better-performance imap functions) on 
the Message-ID header either, so that won't work.
