I very much like auto-configuration but we must be aware that there is not a 
standard but more a convention and a subject to change/evolution.

AFAIK automx is a tool which creates suitable configuration documents for 
delivery via http(s) for MS and Mozilla (both are incompatible and KDE follows 
Mozilla).
