What is the rationale not to just take the latest version that is not corrupt?

You can find all versions of that object by their Kolab ID with a single IMAP 
command, then go backwards from the latest until you find one that is valid / 
not corrupted, and remove the rest.

If you want to play it safe, you might also store all older duplicates in 
another folder that should not itself be pushed to the mobile.
