New submission from Thomas Arendsen Hein <thomas at intevation.de>:

As discussed in person, main reasons against storing in LDAP are:
- LDAP entries should not be polluted with large amounts of Horde settings
-> especially important for integrating in existing LDAP environments
- LDAP should only contain persistent data, not user data

Possible problems with file storage:
- in multi-server setups not all servers have the user's config.
-> You could still switch back to LDAP, use some file synchronization
mechanism or use a different backend, e.g. IMAP., or force users to always
use a specific server (e.g. kolabHomeServer)
- existing user preferences when upgrading
-> at least documentation on how to switch back to LDAP would be needed,
even better a way to migrate existing user preferences.

Despite these possible problems the switch should be done now to prevent new
installations from having the additional LDAP entries.
