New submission from Sascha Wilde <wilde at intevation.de>:
The webinterface in 2.2 RC1 shows:
Mail Filter Settings
[] Check messages for mismatching From header and envelope from.
[] Use the Sender header instead of From for the above checks if
Sender is present.
Action to take for messages that fail the check:
() Reject the message, except if it originates from the outside and
the From header matches one of Kolab server's domains. In that
case rewrite the From header so the recipient can see the
potential forgery.
() Always reject the message. Note that enabling this setting will make
the server reject any mail with non-matching sender and From header if
the sender is an account on this server. This is known to cause
trouble for example with mailinglists.
This is misleading/incomplete in many ways.
1.) Even if none of the two first options are checked the filter still
checks for mails with a kolab domain in the From header and reject
or rewrites them.
2.) Therefore the last two settings are still relevant, even is none
of the first two are selected.
3.) "Reject the message, except if it originates from the outside ..."
means that messages from the "inside" are still rejected.
a) It is unclear what exactly "outside" means (especially as kolab
filter does ignore the privileged networks, see Issue2466 )
b) Is it a good idea to give mails from "inside" no chance while
mails from outside are passed?
c) the German translation of this text is even more fuzzy...
4.) There is no way to disable filtering completely.
