Dovecot does look more open to external patches than Cyrus IMAP to
me. But that is just a general observation and not based on actual
experience with Dovecot. Dovecot development seems to be rather active
so the chance of getting Kolab specific stuff in there are probably
higher.

I wouldn't be too optimistic about this yet. As far as I know Dovecot
lacks a few central features that Cyrus provides which are part of the
core Kolab Server functionality (which is the reason why we use
Cyrus). Implementing this in Dovecot will probably not be done in a
few weeks.
