[Kolab-devel] Master and slave servers seperated by slow links

Hello

I spoke to briefly to Steffen today on irc, and I had a minor panic about some
problems I saw when seperating Master and slave Kolab servers with a slow WAN
link, the problems were as follows.

Timeouts when using the web GUI on a slave to configure things.
Postfix problems, bouncing emails, and emails not forwared correctly to users
homeservers.
Users getting hung in the "AWAITING DELETION" state

ANd many other spurious and non repeatable problems.

I seperated the servers by a Frame Relay link running at 512 kbps with a CIR
of 256 kbps ( aren't I lucky to also have a router lab to play with)

I think the kolab default valies works ok for normal links, but one thing to
think about is when very slow links are involved, each and every one of the
problems I saw, both the ones I could repeat and and the ones that were
spurious, were all solved by doubling the LDAP timeouts for postfix and
imapd.

Just thought I would share this in case it ever comes up

rgds

Matt
