Art Cancro from the Citadel project
informed me that they are aiming for Kolab compatibility.

Check out what they write at
http://www.citadel.org/kolab.php
I think we should place a link on the Kolab webpages.
(I just have to think about a good place.)

It is therefore now the aim of the Citadel project
to become a fully compliant Kolab compatible server.
The current CVS tree contains code which implements
around 80 percent of Kolab functionality.
It is our goal to achieve 100 percent Kolab compatibility
	by Q3 2004.

They say that a rising tide lifts all ships.
We believe that the Kolab specification is that tide,
and we encourage all open source groupware developers
to follow and implement this specification.
In particular, it would be wonderful to see Kolab compatibility
	in Evolution and especially Thunderbird.

Incidentally, it's also worth noting that Bynari
is currently readying a new version of its Insight Connector
that will actually store calendar data directly in IMAP
rather than merely synchronizing with it,
and it appears that they will have actual iCalendar format support,
instead of having to work with legacy Microsoft TNEF format.
v3.0 of Connector is to be released in Q2 2004.
If it truly does bring these features,
they will have achieved the "holy grail" of allowing Outlook
to be used with open source groupware
with the same level of functionality as Exchange --
and it sounds like it will be more-or-less Kolab compatible as well.
