Although all users and many administrators will never notice, the use
of a directory service as the configuration store combined with event
triggered (configuration) activity is the holy grail of scalability.
It enables integration into enterprise environments while retaining
a secure environment. This combination is exactly what attracted me
to evaluate Kolab and it is what makes this project superior to other
solutions. Keep this in mind when developing a frontend replacement.
