With the old KDE Kolab client 
you got message from several services 
when working offline.
Like you could not sync (for each account)
and you would not upload or download freebusy lists.

It seems to me that it might make sense to detect
some sort of "offline" mode and then do not display
each error message separately, disrupting the user.
On the other hand the network needs to be tried
and when it comes available again the whole (group of applications)
should move to online mode again retrying all the different
network related things.
