It is still true. I have just opened a bug report so I'm remembered to 
make an upgrade path for current KMail IMAP users.

The only one I have heard of that tried this was burned. A lot. The 
warning could be emphasized even more, because if a KMail user does not 
remove his online IMAP account before starting kroupware_branch he will 
loose all mail.
