The best thing would be to report an issue at https://issues.kolab.org against 
the deb packaging.

Kolab itself does work on Debian. The issue is with packages. There is only 
one packager that does some stuff in his spare time. I assume you tried the 
Kolab 3.1 alpha packages from OBS. These packages are very experimental and 
need some effort and help to get running.
