You don't have to, indeed, but feedback on whether the issues are 
actually fixed would be much appreciated.

For the locale issue, you need pykolab-0.4.1 from updates-testing;

   https://issues.kolab.org/show_bug.cgi?id=741

# yum --enablerepo=kolab-3.0-updates-testing update pykolab

A simple verification on whether this works should suffice:

# service kolabd stop
# LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 /usr/sbin/kolabd -d 8

Ctrl+C to abort this process. Note you may run into #750 when doing 
this, so I suggest implementing the workaround first and renaming the 
example.org section in /etc/kolab/kolab.conf to reflect your 
primary_domain (also in /etc/kolab/kolab.conf, section [kolab]).
