kolab broken after upgrade to Kubuntu 12.04

My kolab had some trouble during the upgrade of my laptop from Kubuntu 11.10 
to Kubuntu 12.04.  Since kolab wasn't letting me sync to it and since the 
upgraded slapd couldn't create its own backup, I removed them and used apt-get 
to  reinstall them only to find that kolabd can't find Digest/SHA1.pm. 
Apparently, the Debian community has known about this problem for a while [1].  
Can someone here give me a way to work around the problem?

Here is the complaint from kolabd:
