Not sure, but some possibilities:

- there may be multiple compiles going on at one.  See if you can
limit via options or variables
- check ulimit settings, in particular -d (data) and -v (virtual mem);
compiling as root may help, if possible
- if you really are low on memory, consider adding more swap (disk or file)

The Kolab Guys might probably know exactly what your issue is.
