Well, I've tracked it down to a segmentation fault:
/kolab/libexec/openldap/slapd -h ldap://127.0.0.1:389/ -f
/kolab/etc/openldap/slapd.conf -d 1
----------------------
[...]
     2.5.13.2 (caseIgnoreMatch): matchingRuleUse: ( 2.5.13.2 NAME
'caseIgnoreMatch' APPLIES ( proftpd-userPassword $
kolabEncryptedPassword $ k $ preferredLan)
     2.5.13.1 (distinguishedNameMatch): matchingRuleUse: ( 2.5.13.1 NAME
'distinguishedNameMatch' APPLIES ( dITRedirect $ associatedName $
secretary $ documen)
     2.5.13.0 (objectIdentifierMatch): matchingRuleUse: ( 2.5.13.0 NAME
'objectIdentifierMatch' APPLIES ( supportedApplicationContext $
supportedFeatures $ su)
slapd startup: initiated.
backend_startup: starting "dc=host106"
Segmentation fault

Seems that some libs are incompatible between my minimal sarge sytem and
kolab2?

Regards, Markus
