In general NFS is very problematic as NFS does not provide POSIX filesystem 
semantics. The cyrus imapd pretty much depends on this for correct working.

Though I am fully aware of the fact that the NetApp filer are very good NAS 
solutions compared to other NFS offerings.

The NetApp NFS implementation is really good in general but which nfs options 
especially with regards to locking and mmap does your file provide?
