kolab integrate with existant ldap

Yes, it does not sound very easy...
I haven't worked much with ldap but I was hoping that I could install
kolab with its openldap server and then only populate some parts of kolabs
ldap tree with our user infos but leaving the kolab specific classes in
the kolab ldap server. Any experience or opinion about that ?
